A large column presented a challenge for the design when opening up this Richmond apartment, that was originally a small kitchen with an equal size laundry. After removing the internal walls to open up the apartment, we were left with a large column in the centre of the space. Tecture chose to embrace the column, choosing to clad the column in Statuario to create a series of monolithic moments anchoring the new layout of the kitchen
The hero of the kitchen is the Statuario stone on the island bench/column from Signorino Tile Gallery, which sits infront of black 2PAC cabinetry, to highlight the stone in its purity, becoming the stand out in this apartment. The Miele Downdraft extractor system allows the kitchen to be rangehood free and sits discreetly within the island bench.
The result is a timeless and minimalist kitchen that is thoughtful with its storage to reflect its apartment nature, yet expansive enough to reinstate it as the heart of the home.
